Kristin is on absolute full bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy, which means no standing or sitting for too long, no cleaning, no running errands - nothing except lying on her left side with her feet up and drinking plenty of water. We had a scare of preeclampsia earlier this week, but everything is okay now. The doctors are closely monitoring her.

32 weeks pregnant. We are in the final stretch of pregnancy. Kristin has gained the recommended 40 pounds for twins. We've attended a birth prep class and breast feeding class. The room is ready and we've got all of the gear. Both babies are turned a bit sideways right now, which indicates a c-section delivery. Unless they turn around in the next 4 weeks surgery would be scheduled for 38 weeks making their birthday the very end of August.

Nursery/Boy's Room/College Dorm
We have no theme for the boy's room nor do we want one. Making it into a pastel nursery with murals of teddy bears and bunnies just didn't seem right to us so we didn't do it. We tried to make the room fun, colorful, stimulating and transferable as they get older. The cribs are sage green, the couch is blue, the walls are yellow and the rug is multi-striped. There are college pennants and vintage tin signs hanging on the walls and shelves full of trains, stuffed animals, ukuleles, cowboy hats, wooden cars, and globes. The room looks like it’s half Mexican fiesta, half dorm room. Now that’s fun!

Names....... that's the most popular question these days. But we are sworn to secrecy. I can tell you that we have some sort of fascination with using names that could be first names or last names (like Thomas), classic names with a twist that could be formal or have a nick name, and names that could pose as a future Business Leader or Professional Skier.

Kristin had trouble getting through security at work this morning. Her hands are so swollen from pregnancy and the heat that the hand-scan didn't recognize her. She had to have her hand geometry re-programmed. haaaaa
Gained 23 pounds and counting....

Interesting facts:

The waiting game: Over the last three decades, women have been waiting longer to become moms. In 1970, the average age for a first-time mother was about 21 — today, she's more likely to be 29 years old.

C-sections soaring: The number of cesarean deliveries has skyrocketed by more than 40 percent in the last decade to 29 percent of births, the highest rate ever reported in the United States.

Boy power: Boy babies outnumber girl babies, with about 1,049 males for every 1,000 females — a ratio that's stayed about the same over the past 60 years.

Tons of twins: Multiple births have increased by more than 400 percent in the past 20 years. The number of twins born in the United States continues to rise, to about 32 pairs of twins for every 1,000 babies. This rate's skyrocketed 65 percent since 1980, as more older women become moms (they have a greater chance of conceiving twins spontaneously) and more fertility treatments are in use.

WE ARE HALF-WAY THERE! Each boy is now the size of a large sweet potato.

Economies of Scale: The increase in efficiency of production as the number of goods (babies) being produced increases. Typically, companies (parents) that achieve economies of scale lower the average cost per unit (baby) through increased production since fixed costs are shared over an increased number of goods (babies).

Great news. We are having two boys.
